Ah! I remember watching "old-school" PKVM back when I first started training in South Africa. I'm over the moon at the new versions, which are simply fantastic, and at how far the teams have come in terms of technique, sensitivity and skill. (Am I giving away my age?!)

I'm equally delighted to see Liv Rowlands, a traceuse I've been following since 2006, hosting the first edition of this revised magazine.

If you've never seen a PKVM, and even if you have, this is a simply must-watch for serious practitioners.

Of particular note, to the girls, is how much power they have in their legs. For our gender this is the starting point. So get out there and get hurting with some hard-core plyometrics. It'll take you a long way.

From Humble Beginnings

It is good, it is great! From just a couple of postings and reaching out to the few in the community I could find, Rain City Girls is already receiving great support. Not only have I heard from a couple of local traceuses, but I've also had inquiries from non-traceuses who aspire to learn parkour.

Ladies, you've come to the right place! I don't know it all, but what I do know I'm more than happy to share! (And I've collected some wicked training tools that I'd be happy to distribute.)

Right now I'm floating Sunday mornings (9:30-ish?) as a possible group-jam-time and would love to hear back from anyone who's interested, at any level (yes total beginners invited too).

I'd like to extend my thanks to all the traceurs and traceuses who have dropped a note in support of the blog and Rain City Girls, too. Your bits of encouragement go a long way.

Since moving home from Africa I've noticed a lack of forum for the women who are practicing this great discipline in the rainy city of Vancouver.

But just because I haven't seen you out there jammin' doesn't mean you're absent from the sport.

If you're like me you'd rather just work it out on your own, without the rah-rah atmosphere of the boys club. You might be quiet, thoughtful, or just wistfully determined to learn the damn moves yourself and kick ass later.

Well, I don't know where you are, or if you're even out there. But I'm here. And I'm tired of jamming solo. (Yeah, that's me.)

I'm going to slowly start making noise. If you're out there too, let's train together.

Rain City Girls, wherever you are, come find me, and we'll kick ass together.
